5 Minutes worth viewing, September 25, 2005

Save your $18 and don't add this one to your cart. There is very little substance in this video. Caro provides 10 interesting "poker tells" that are worth viewing but you stop at your local bookstore and spend 5 minutes reading his book on poker tells and get the same info.

The rest of the DVD is very, very basic hold-em strategy that even a novice should know.

Mike may be a genius but he isn't sharing much of his grey matter in this DVD.

This a very mediocre dvd. It is very basic and not very strategy oriented. Any of the Howard Lederer dvds are far more interesting and give better strategies. I would not recommend this dvd and think it was a total waste of money. I think it is also sad that the dvd was used as an advertisement for a casino.

I expected more from a Mike Caro DVD. Any of the poker books out there will give you better information. Considering it is only 40 some minutes - and no one can distill what's there in a good book to a 40 minute DVD. This is a very basic beginner type DVD and even still there is nothing you can learn or apply from watching it. I'd go by one of the books that has been reviewed 4-5 stars here on amazon, rather than get this DVD.

Early Lingo gets it right, January 24, 2011

First of all, I just want to say how thrilled (and relieved) I was to finally find a language series that actually works, and is so clearly put together by someone who understands how language needs to be taught. I am a former teacher, I have 3 children, ages 2,4 and 6, and I have searched high and low since the birth of my 6 year old for a series like this. Some of the other products I've bought over the years have been so disappointing, and so I cannot recommend this series highly enough. Not only that, they are extremely engaging. Since I bought the Spanish series, my kids have wanted to watch nothing else!! (In fact, its actually quite hard to pull yourself away from watching!) My kids are mesmerized, and it's an absolute joy to know that they are learning a language at the same time. I now have all the series as I realized that the English version also helps my 2 year old learn his colors and counting. Great movie, but not exactly what I expected, September 21, 2003

I had been looking forward to the release of this movie all summer long, and it was a great movie! It was just a little different from what I had thought it would be.

The movie, as most of you probably know, is about a war that has been going on between werewolves and vampires. And it is THIS that is the primary focus of the plot (as opposed to the vampires and werewolves themselves). The werewolves have been researching their bloodlines and discovered a human who shares a common ancestor with both the werewolves and the vampires. The werewolves seek out this human, and this is noted by Selene (Kate Beckinsale), who decides to make it her mission to discover the importance of this particular human.

Unfortunately, the writers decided not to delve too deeply into vampire and werewolf lore. I was pretty disappointed by the fact that the supernatural abilities of these supernatural beings were not really emphasized. Instead, the writers chose to merely stick guns in the hands of the vampires and werewolves. In addition, the mythology was slightly different from what I've read and seen before in previous vampire and werewolf books and movies. I don't necessarily have a problem with that, but if you are going to change things from what people are used to, then it should be explained in slightly more detail.

Another thing that was a little disappointing were the effects. The previews led me to believe that the movie would be comparable to the "Matrix" in that department. Unfortunately, the best effects (with the one exception of the werewolf transformations) were all shown in the previews.

All of this aside, the movie was still pretty incredible. The plot was exceptional, which is not necessarily always the case with most action movies, and the action kept me entertained throughout the movie's entirety. The make-up and costumes were also outstanding, as was the acting. I actually saw this movie twice, and the second time around (once I got over the intial let-down of it being slightly different from what I expected) it was MUCH better. I anxiously await the sequel (and based on how the movie ended, there WILL be a sequel) as well as the DVD release!

Underworld Unrated rocks on Blu-Ray!, September 27, 2007

This movie really looks great on Blu-Ray with an AVC encode and the PCM lossless audio is excellent. By the way this movie is also region free (Regions A, B & C) so people can import this if they want to.

Apart from the weak plot, I find the fighting scenes to be poorly Choreographed, not to mention the acting which leaves a lot to be desired!!
Most importantly, I find it incredible that this piece of junk was actually on 1080p format as the picture and audio qualities were far below that of standard DVD's!!
I actually threw my copy in the GARBAGE after patiently watching the first 15 minutes of this trash. I should have just tossed my $16.95 in the garbage in the first place!!

All the previous exercises in this DVD set come together on this DVD with specific scene breakdowns.

Each event and line of dialogue is "explained to mean something" and rendered symbolic. The basics of how story symbols and themes change when used conjunctively or even in contrast is revealed.

The Sopranos episode examples demonstrate how all the story techniques work together to give the viewer space to decide what is hapenning instead of TELLING everything with dialogue. You have to watch the episode first, then you see how the universal symbols work together and what they mean.

Twin Peaks (the movie) is deconstructed in the opening shots and helps you to see what Lynch is doing to draw the viewers in to play an almost visual puzzle game with his story. This makes the film more interesting and deep when you start thinking about using symbols in new and unusual ways. Many ideas are given to do these types of ideas to your own films.

This movie has the biggest delta between the description on Amazon and the actual content of the movie. Unlike Hong Kong B movies, this title has not only poor acting, poor lines, and crappy camera work, but also surprisingly bad picture quality. I kept thinking that I could have done a better job with an analog video camera from 1988.

The "action" in the movie is bordering on the ridiculous. For example in the opening scene the main character easily overwhelms a half a dozen guards with a suppressed pistol, even though all of the guards were within ten or so yards of each other. This is followed by an execution scene that borders on the comical. And it doesn't get any better.

Short version: save your money.

Being a fan of the Underworld series as well as the lovely Kate Beckensale, I had to purchase this movie on blu-ray. I have this movie on every format except vhs. All I have to say is that this movie looks and sound awesome on blu-ray. If you want good demo material get this movie, you will not be disappointed.
